Chinese students who attend university in the West need specific skills and habits to succeed. Foremost among the skills is self-discipline. However, many Chinese students often stay up all night talking to friends or family at home. Video game addiction has also become a problem of undergraduate students. These students “game” with their friends in China or somewhere else in the world. They play through the night, and then don’t attend classes. The result is failing grades and being forced to return to China.

Many Chinese students say that developing the habit of going to the Learning Center or Academic Support Center made them successful. Taking responsibility for your absences from class is also important so if you have to be absent find out what work you missed and complete it. Finally, meet your deadlines. If you know you are going to miss a deadline inform the professor ahead of time.
