【国际中学部】“英”为有你,“语”众不同——第二届英语周活动完美收官

At Joy International Secondary School, English as a universal language is the basis for learning knowledge in all subjects, and proficiency in English expression and writing skills is an essential skill for all students who aspire to study abroad. In order to enhance the fun and attractiveness of English subjects and stimulate students’ enthusiasm for learning, Joy Secondary School launched the second English Week activities since May 9, and the week-long colorful activities have attracted all students to actively participate in them.

在嘉洋国际中学部,英语语言作为一门通用语言,是学习所有学科知识的基础,熟练掌握英语的表达和书写能力,对于所有有志于出国留学的学生们来说都是必备的技能。为了增强英语学科的趣味性和吸引力,激发学生们的学习热情,5月9日开始,嘉洋中学部开展了第二届英语周活动,为期一周的丰富多彩的活动吸引了所有学生们积极参与其中。

This is both a moment to celebrate the achievements of students in the middle and high schools, and an opportunity to them to demonstrate the progress they have made over the year. There were four separate events: presentations on various themes by the Language Arts, Literary Genre and Language & Composition classes; poems and short plays performed by ESL 201, 301 and 401; and word game competitions for the high school and then the middle school.

这是一个庆祝初高中学生取得成就的时刻,也是一个展示他们一年来所取得进步的机会。 本次英语周由四个独立的部分组成:语言艺术、文学体裁和语言与写作班的不同主题的演讲;ESL 201、301和401的诗歌和短剧;还有高中和初中的文字游戏比赛。

The presentation topics included how the English texts have influenced the students; biographies and fact-files of literary characters; and explaining why students like or dislike particular characters. Students also created PowerPoints and then presented in groups of two, three or four. The students really demonstrated some of the key characteristics we develop here: namely, the ability to engage with the texts and to present their ideas and feelings; and the ability to organize themselves and to present their work in a mature fashion.

演讲主题包括英语课文对学生的影响、文学人物的传记和事实档案,并解释为什么学生喜欢或不喜欢特定的角色。学生们还制作了幻灯片,然后以两个人、三个人或四个人为一组进行展示。学生们确实展示了我们在这里培养的一些关键特征,即参与文本并表达自己的想法和感受的能力,组织能力以及以成熟的方式展示自己作品的能力。  

The next event saw ESL 201, 301 and 401 performing a poem and short plays. ESL 201 recited a long Roald Dahl poem, while ESL 301 and 401 both had two plays each. Some of the props, costumes and performances were really excellent! It was great to see students entering into the activity with such gusto.

The word game competitions for middle school and high school were a Spelling Bee, a pronunciation game (with judges), and a game (taken from a British TV show) where teams select eight vowels and consonants and have one minute to make the longest word possible. The point of these activities was to do what we specialize in at Joy School: to enable students to demonstrate their ability with English vocabulary and pronunciation in a fun and stimulating environment, and by using their natural competitiveness to encourage them to demonstrate their skills in a different way from the typical classroom environment.Mike lead the games as though the students were taking part in a TV gameshow and made it a fun learning experience for the students. 

初中和高中的单词游戏比赛有拼写比赛、发音游戏(有评委)和一个游戏(取自英国电视节目),参赛队选择8个元音和辅音,并在一分钟内写出尽可能长的单词。这些活动的重点是做我们嘉洋学校所擅长的事情:让学生在一个有趣、刺激的环境中展示自己的英语词汇和发音能力,并利用学生天生的竞争力,鼓励他们以不同于典型课堂环境的方式展示自己的技能。Mike老师带领学生们玩游戏,就像参加电视游戏一样,让学生们体验到有趣的学习经历。
